Keep an eye out: The church steeples visible in the background were the tallest buildings in the city of Fredericksburg in 1862. They are still the highest points in the city today.
As Ranger Pete explained, Edward Cross had different concerns from many of the other soldiers at Fredericksburg because he was a commander. It was important for the men to be able to trust their leader, which made Edward's choice all the more important. What other qualities do you think are important in a leader?
