Joseph Miller
Three brothers, William, Ezekiel, and Joseph Miller, were all members of Company K of the 17th Mississippi, known as the “Magnolia Guards.” William, the oldest of the three, died in June of 1862, before the Battle of Fredericksburg. Friends remembered him as a “brave and gallant soldier.” Ezekiel and Joseph both fought in the streets of Fredericksburg on December 11, 1862. Joseph started a diary after Ezekiel died; below is one of his entries.
Joseph says, "I never had such feelings in my life," when describing his search for his brother on the battlefield. What do you think those feelings were? How would you have felt if you were Joseph?
