General Hooker
After the disaster at Fredericksburg, General Joseph Hooker had replaced General Ambrose Burnside as commander of the Union Army. Before the Battle of Chancellorsville, Hooker had worked hard to train the Union soldiers and help them build confidence after their defeat. He would have to lead his men back across the Rappahannock River, just like at Fredericksburg. This time he hoped to secure the Union a much-needed victory. |
